Onion Uttapam: The healthy and flavoursome recipe

Onion Uttapam recipe is a delightful breakfast recipe loved by all age groups people. This popular South Indian recipe is a healthy dish which contains lot of vegetables. And if you’re keeping a tab on diet & trying to be conscious regarding healthy food then go for the healthy breakfast recipe because it needs less oil. You could also have the Uttapam as the snack for tea time. Onion Uttapam tastes best when served with different kinds of sambhar and chutneys. And you can serve crispy papads with the amazing snack.

Let’s get into the recipe with list of ingredients.

Ingredients of Onion Uttapam:

  • 80 gm urad dal
  • 1/2 inch finely chopped ginger
  • 1 tablespoon refined oil
  • 250 gm idli rice
  • 2 finely chopped green chilli
  • 2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Onion Uttapam recipe:

Onion Uttapam is a perfect delicacy treat for our taste buds. And here are the steps to prepare the recipe. To make it more delicious, soak the rice and dal separately in the water for like 2-3 hours. Once it’s finished, drain the excess water. Then add the rice and dal in separate blenders to grind them for a smooth batter. Transfer the rice and dal batter in big bowl & add enough salt. Mix them well.

Now heat slight oil in pan over medium flame. Add onions to saute them till it change the colour slightly pinkish. Then add green chillies & ginger. Saute it for another minute and then add this mixture to batter & mix well. And be careful about the batter that it can’t be too thin or too thick.

Then heat the tawa over medium flame & pour ladleful of batter on it. Spread the batter in circular motion for a thick uttapam. Apply oil around edges of it & cook on each sides. Once it’s cooked perfectly, make it ready for the serving. Different types of chutneys and sambar are the perfect pairing.
