The
retail sector of the country is one of the most booming sectors.
There are new retail stores coming up every year. The requirement for
efficient and trained manpower to run these retail stores is quite
high in the market. Big brands offer handsome packages to the people
who want to make a career in retail marketing and management. There
are many colleges which have started a retail management courses both
in the short term and long term.
The
course is usually a two year course which is divided into 4 semesters
each. The syllabus of each semester is different and the student is
required to get minimum credits to pass. There are some institutes
which also offer the course in one year. This is mostly an executive
retail management course which is targeted towards the employed
students. There are some universities and institutes of the country
which offers retail management courses in India by
giving MBA while some offer PGDM.
The
difference is not much between MBA and PGDM. The course structures
differ a bit for both of them. MBA is offered by recognised
universities and colleges of India while PGDM is offered by
autonomous institutes of the country. MBA is based more on
theoretical classes which teaches the students about the various
concepts and theories about the course whereas on the other hand the
colleges
offering PGDM in retail are
more practically oriented courses with a lots of industry exposurefor the students.
The
basic eligibility for the admission is very different in most of the
colleges. Some of the institutes and colleges conduct their own
entrance examinations while other accepts scores of any national
level test like UGC NET, CAT, MAT and XAT. The selected candidates
are then called for a round of GD and PI where the provisional
admission is awarded to the best candidates. The admission is full
once all the documents and fees is submitted by the candidates.
The

semester has fundamentals and advanced courses in the retail and
principles of management. This makes the students aware of all the
latest development in the world of retail sector. The fee structure
of the course differs according to the level of course. There are
many colleges and institutes in India which offers all these courses
to the students in various specialisations and streams.
